  1. I am a pretty slow reader espeically with the Book of Mormon. The last time I read it it took me just over a year but I did a lot more in-depth stuff which was really good. I am not sure the fastest I have read it but for me it's a little more quality over quantity though it would be interesting to see how quickly I could read through it.

  2. No clue. I've read it over twenty times, but I've never tried for speed, or set a date I wanted to have it read by.

  3. On my mission they wanted us to read it in six months, I read it in 4. My roommates and I also read it in 4 months just now, we finished tonight. I am now in Helaman 8. So I think that this time takes the cake. Reading it through fast has given me a new look at the timeline and how everything fits together but Brittany has a good point. Slow reading is also good when you are looking for ideas and the like.

  4. So I asked Matt how quickly he has read the Book of Mormon and he said that on his mission they asked all the missionaries to read it in 10 days. He said it was hard but really cool to read it so quickly.

  5. I did President Hinckley's challenge and read it from August to the end of December. But other than that I've never tried to "burn" through it, I don't get as much from it.

Good job on almost completing your goal.

  6. I know your focus was the BoM and less on weight loss, but Tim and I have been trying to focus a lot on eating healthier throughout the day. We have been incorporating a TON more fruits and veggies into our diet. We have ate a lot of corn, mangoes, pineapples, and artichokes recently. We've even had a few days where we didn't eat any meat at all (which is unheard of in this household).

  7. Hahaha im going to start again but with the emphasis on actually studying it BUT this has helped me so much realize the timeline and what happens where instead of all these stories and lessons that ive read since i was a kid.

  8. Yea, good job Tim, I'm glad it gave you that perspective and that you're going to do it again.

  9. Glad to hear you are eating healthy. Having a meal without meat is a good plan. Or at least cutting down on how much meat you eat. Having a salad with a little meat in it can make the salad more enjoyable. It is good to hear you guys are enjoying your reading. I must admit I have never read it through really fast so I wasn't able to complete it with Tim. Thanks for the challenge Tim.

  10. I read through it in 2 days as a young man. We did it as a young men's activity. We went to the LDS youth camp, got a whole bunch of snacks and sandwiches, pizza, soda, candy and the like. We then turned on the audio tapes and read along non-stop until we finished. I was crazy tired but had a good time.

I remember a talk regarding studying the scriptures and how to make it more effective. I liked three points he made in our efforts to increase the effectiveness of our scripture study. He said something to this effect: first, read the scriptures to understand the story, the flow and timeline, the characters and their places in history with respect to each other. Do this by reading the scriptures start to finish. Second, read sections, chapters, or specific stories to get a better understanding of the what, when, why of the story and how it applies to you. Third, study scriptures by topic. For example, look up scriptures just about faith, or repentance.

So the amount of time it takes to read the Book of Mormon doesn't really matter, but understanding the story better is really important. Once you understand the story, so much else starts to fall into place as you look at specific scriptures or sections. I think it's awesome Tim actually completed his goal. Tim, I just think it goes to show that you can do whatever the Lord wants you to do, with his help.
