Christmas Traditions

'Tis the season full of traditions. Some are silly, some are spiritual, some are relaxing...whatever they are we love them and yearn to do them year after year. What are your favorite Christmas traditions? What are some tradition your remember doing when you were little that you miss? What are some new ones that you are trying out?

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you are enjoying the season.

  1. -Hanging our stockings the night before Christmas on the staircase.
    -Wassail mmmmmmmm!
    -Decorating cookies
    -The live enactment of the Nativity we did when we were young...or the felt one.
    -Opening a present one at time and then having to take a breakfast break!
    -Writing clues on the gifts!!
    --Guessing what the gifts are before we open them
    ---Know what pants are and what belts are before we open them because they are always wrapped the same (except dad's becoming sneaky these days...)
    -A new one, Making lots of food!
    -Decorating while drinking egg nog.
    -A new one for me is decorating gingerbread houses
    -A new one for me is decorating our bed with Christmas lights and other decorations.
    ...There are so many and I love all of them! I know I wrote a ton, but feel free to repeat.

  3. A couple of new ones Matt and I have created since we got married are...

    - Matt wearing green pajama bottoms and me wearing red ones.
    - Watching Christmas movies while decorating or listening to Christmas music.
    - Matt decorating the tree (which he does an amazing job at) while I decorate the rest of the house.
    - Making tons and tons of Christmas cookies!
    - Reading The Nativity Story in Luke
    - Sleeping over at my mom's house on Christmas Eve (except this year we live so close we can sleep at our place and just drive over in the morning)
    - Getting our picture taken with all our loot!
    - Saving a couple of presents for us to open at our own place after we open presents Christmas morning at my moms.

  4. With Kids, it makes everything so much cooler! I can't wait for all of you to have kids to share fun holiday traditions with!
    -Fresh baked cinnamon rolls Christmas morning
    -Waking up at 4am Christmas morning to open presents befor my mom had to go to work (happeneing again this year!)
    -Counting down the days 'til Christmas with our Nativity advent calendar
    -Joseph and Mary dinner on Christmas Eve while watching "the Nativity" movie
    -Egg Nog
    -Wasail
    -Lots of food in general
    -Giving a gift to Jesus on Christmas Eve
    -Saving money all month to donate toys to the Toys for Kids drive. This was our first year doing it and the kids love buying toys to give to other kids.
    -Thom lifting the youngest kid up to put the star on top of the tree
    -Putting tinsil on the tree
    -Cutting down our own Christmas tree in the "woods"
    -Collecting a new Nativity scene every year
    -Always trying to get our shopping done early, and yet still shopping today
