Christmas Feast

Mom called me a little while ago asking about ideas for our Christmas feast. She came up with a really really awesome idea that I support (and Dad says "eh" to.) Moms idea came from the Christmas we all made our own chowders for Christmas dinner. She loved that we all were busy in the kitchen together. She loved the excitement we all had making our own dishes. She loved that we were all involved. Keeping with that idea, Mom came up with:

Crepes.

All different kinds of crepes! While some people work on making the crepes, others work on making their own fillings. At the end we will have a smorgasbord stuff to put in our crepes for dinner (meats, cheeses, spreads...) AND a whole different assortment of innards for dessert crepes later that night (fruits, spreads...). The idea is for us all to become creative, spend time together, and be able to mix and match.

Mom would like to know what everyone thought of this idea/what other ideas there might be. Please comment!

P.S. Dad, this can be eaten with a fork.

  1. I say we do the "Chowda" all over again but force everyone to eat with their fingers. ...but in all seriousness, crepes aren't my favorite, I'm sure they will taste great though. (really I just don't like having my dinner wrapped up in the same thing as my dessert.) Maybe if a porter house was one of those toppings and we just didn't wrap it up in an egg-y crepe that would work, however it isn't very family friendly in the kitchen. I'll come back with a suggestion for food later.

  2. I can fix all of your problems... why even have dinner crepes. It's Christmas! Let's have crepes loaded with fruits, syrups, and whipped cream for dinner. Then we'll change it up for dessert and add a cherry on top of some more crepes with fruits, syrups, and whipped cream! Yum.

  3. Please see my post posted elsewhere. I didn't realize you had to add to a particular conversational string.

  4. I agree with Mr. Thelin. Porterhouse. Or chowder. Or Chinese takeout. "It's smiling at me!" Fa rah rah rah rah . . .

  6. Taking a lead from Mr. DeGriselles, I found a way we could do Chinese and crepes. Mushu Pork, with plum sauce! And of course a nice steak, I mean what's Christmas without the Roast Beast.

  7. I agree with dad. I do not like crepes but I can have something on the side if everyone else wants them. I will eat the fillings with bread or something like that. I have no problem cooking them though. I like how we all help out in the kitchen too.

  9. What about the whipped cream and syrup and fruit and sugar...? We don't need no stinkin meat! The whipped cream shall be your meat. It has protien.

  10. It does sound like we need to come up with a different idea though. Sarah suggested we all do our own side dish. We would have a main course and all come up and make some good signature side. We call the fruit salad...

  13. But that's only a small technicallity. The main objective of my post was to find out whether or not the family would agree with everyone making side dishes. Not if you like fruit salad or not. I still call dibbs.

  16. Woah, Woah, Woah! "We don't need no stinkin meat!" I'm a proud carnivore! We can still do your suggested "yummy yummy fruit salad" ala' The Wiggles, but I would still prefer some sort of semi-cooked animal flesh(well the muscle more to speak, I'm not a huge fan of rinds - that's not saying I won't eat them from time to time).
